It might not surprise you to learn that women lie. It might not even surprise you to learn that they lie even more online. When a woman is filling out a profile she’s going to embellish the truth a little, partly out of the desire to be that person and also perhaps out of sheer ignorance. Still, it’s always best to approach women’s dating profiles with a few grains of salt handy, because there are three really common lies that basically everyone tells.
They Make Themselves Shorter
Short women are considered cuter. If a woman is not abnormally short (say, below 5 feet tall) then she is probably going to shave something off her height. The most common difference is for her to take the “and change” off. If she’s 5’8 and 3/4ths, she’s probably going to say that she’s just 5’8. Of course, if you happen to be actually 5’8, when you meet things are going to get awkward. Still, women take that risk every day because they want to seem petite in their profile. At least with this the difference is mostly harmless. It can get worse.
They Make Themselves Thinner
To be fair, men are guilty of this too. Pretty much everyone on line wouldn’t mind dropping a few pounds, even if they don’t “need” to. Women typically subtract about ten pounds from their weight, and most of this is just wishful thinking. Either they used to weight that and don’t know that they don’t anymore or they’re sure that by the time they get a date those 20 minute walking sessions will have paid off doesn’t matter. On most people, the amount of weight they fibbed about won’t even be noticeable unless your job is to guess people’s weights at carnivals.
They Say They Earn Less Money
Men are threatened by a woman with a great salary. Plus, she doesn’t want a guy to come on to her and break her heart because she happened to get a good job out of college and build up some wealth. Men like to be the provider and women like to cater to that by allowing men to earn more money than them (at least according to their profiles). This doesn’t mean you should assume every woman making a decent living is actually a secret millionaire, but you shouldn’t rush to assume she can’t keep up with her rent either.
How to Handle a Different Date
Of course, sometimes you get to your date and you realize that her profile picture was from 50 pounds or 15 years ago, or she’s gotten a new lip ring that turns you off, or something equally terrible. The important thing is that when this happens you handle it gracefully. Yelling is only going to make you the bad guy after all. Just have a brief, polite date and go your separate ways; keeping a good reputation on your dating site is key, so don’t rise to any bait if a woman turns up looking less than you expected.
